Okay Tumblr peeps. I’m reaching out to you guys for some serious inspiration and help at this point. I’ve kind of reached my wits end with weight loss at this point. I’ve been able to successfully lose and keep off 81 pounds since October 2010. Coming from someone like me, that’s a hell of an accomplishment. However, I may have screwed things up for my body from the beginning. I lost around 2 pounds a week pretty steadily for the most part, and things tapered down into more of a 1 pound a week sort of thing. None of this was fad diet for me. I started calorie counting with MyFitnessPal, and that became my major motivator to keep me going and losing weight.
The big problem now? I’ve hit a hell of a plateau that’s been running on me since January. I’m a convention measurer, where I measure my weight loss progress by the cons I attend. When I went to Youmacon in November, I was sitting at 222. I was able to hit 215 for Ohayocon in January. I have less than a month left until my next convention, and I’ve been playing the damn Yo-Yo game since that point. I’d reached a low of 208, but I have not been able to advance past that point. I was 208 just over a week ago, and yet this morning, I’m back up to 215. I cut down my calorie intake, been working out, and doing everything I can to gain the edge back. I’ve heard that plateaus can last for a month sometimes, but heading into my third month is really starting to drive me to the end.
I eat 1300 calories a day, and will occasionally hit 1700 calories in a day. I would figure that i’m still within a big enough deficit to lose weight, but instead, I’m staying the same or gaining back. Has my metabolism just gotten that slow?
What can I do to get past this? How can I boost my metabolism? What am I not doing that I need to do to change this?
Hi, Lovely~
First off - You are an INSPIRATION and are doing absolutely FANTASTICALLY. :) Whether or not you lose more before the next con (ACEN? <333 :) ) or not, you are doing great and don’t freak out! :)
As for plateauing -
* Change your workout routine. If you mainly do cardio, try lifting more weights , or just try a new TYPE of exercise! (zumba, pilates, there are lots of things! :) )
* UP your calorie intake! This sounds counter productive, but your body could simply need more calories and you could be at a standstill because of that. :)
OR
Change up what you get your calories from! If you find yourself eating the same things all the time you could be deficient in some food groups, try to mix those in! :)
Good luck, sweetie! I’m rooting for you!
